Hi Peter,

I live in Brooklyn and when I was renovating I found a stash of perfect condition letters and business records from the turn of the century. As a result, I have done a great deal of research about the addresses and the names found in these documents. I see that you have not posted recently but your baseball post caught my eye and I am wondering what you know about the Brooklyn Atlantics? Folkert Boerum (of the Boerum family) apparently was the first man to catch a baseball from behind the batter and his brother-in-law, Jack Remsen (yes, that Remsen family) was a star in his day. I have many cancelled checks from the Boerum estate that are signed by FR Boerum

If you get back to posting, know that you have a reader.

Best regards,

Jessica

I think of those type O Caribs eating Verrazano...

My parents grew up in Brooklyn. I never lived there, but I was born there, because my mother's OB was there, so she commuted. I'm a history buff, Peter, and really appreciate your treatment of Brooklyn here. Keep sending it. It's a gift to be fascinated by the region one has actually inhabited. I look back at my New York roots and the New England where I went to school and regret that I was so oblivious while I was there. I try to goad the kids into historic interest in their locales, to no avail. I guess most of us don't catch that bug until midlife or so...

Thanks.
